VIENNA'S POPULATION HAS A SAY IN URBAN DESIGN

Ideas are welcome!

The City of Vienna decided to involve the population actively in planning processes for the restructuring of older urban quarters as well as for the creation of new neighbourhoods in order to take account of citizens’ manifold ideas already before the conclusion of a project. This makes it possible to identify, and take account of, sources of criticism, uncertainty and resistance against projects at an early date.

wohnpartner and the Urban Renewal Offices (GB*) support this intention and, above all, provide space for gathering all stakeholders “around a table”, as it were, in order to develop optimised solutions in co-operative fashion. Active participation by local inhabitants means that citizens take part in this dialogue, thus strengthening social cohesion and leading to greater solidarity in the respective neighbourhood.

RESIDENTS’ CENTRES

wohnpartner operates Residents’ Centres (Bewohner*innen-Zentren) in several parts of Vienna to provide a place of encounter, dialogue and exchange.

COMPREHENSIVE PARTICIPATION

No matter whether a new urban quarter is emerging, an older neighbourhood is restructured or residential buildings and their environs are refurbished – the population is always involved right from the beginning.
