RESIDENTS’ CENTRES

An opportunity to meet and communicate

Improvement of the living conditions of the population depends both on access to social life and on social participation. For persons excluded from certain social spaces – such as work, university or school –, the everyday living environment serves as a stabilising resource for social involvement.

As a result, Residents’ Centres can increase the benefits of social participation. Above all, the objective lies in strengthening social cohesion.

Since the inauguration of the first Residents’ Centre in 2012, wohnpartner has added another five such facilities, bringing the total number up to six. The Residents’ Centres are open to all local tenants and designed to accommodate all sorts of activities: Gardening, communal cooking, artistic/creative activities, sports and health are only a few examples. Personal contacts with clients facilitate the in-depth understanding of residents’ everyday lives and needs.

But tenants are not only supported by providing premises. They are also assisted by experts or institutions that help them in self-organising their activities at the Residents’ Centres, thus contributing to the elimination of barriers. The objective lies in strengthening social cohesion and reducing disparities by offering spaces that on the one hand act as comfort zones and on the other hand serve as venues for acquiring knowledge and, hence, empowerment.
